Hope Begins with a Safe Place to Call Home

Every day, families in Eastern Oregon face impossible choices between paying rent, buying groceries, or keeping the lights on. For many, a job loss, medical emergency, domestic violence, or unexpected hardship can quickly lead to homelessness.

Martha's House Family Transitional Housing Shelter, an outreach ministry of Eastern Oregon Mission, was established in March 2013 to respond to the growing need for safe, transitional housing for families and individuals experiencing homelessness throughout Eastern Oregon.

For more than a decade, Martha's House has been a place of hope, healing, and new beginnings—helping families move beyond crisis toward stability, independence, and permanent housing.

The Need is Greater Than Ever

Housing insecurity continues to affect thousands of our neighbors.

Recent community data indicate that approximately 3,800 residents—nearly 4% of the region's population—experience housing instability each year. Annual counts also identify between 300 and 500 individuals living in literal homelessness, while local service providers consistently report that the need for shelter and supportive housing far exceeds available resources.

In rural Eastern Oregon, these challenges are compounded by:

• Limited affordable housing
• Rural isolation
• Limited public transportation
• Rising housing and utility costs
• Limited access to supportive services

Without intervention, families often remain trapped in a cycle of housing instability.
